Bursary Guidelines
1. Purpose
• The Shoreline Artists Association has established a bursary program that includes students planning to enter a Post-Secondary School to continue their education in the Visual Arts, as well as Secondary School Students that show a promising talent in the arts, that may not be continuing into a post-secondary program of the arts, but wish to continue with their art in other ways.
2. Scope
• Eligible students from a Secondary School within the Counties of Bruce or Grey which are under the jurisdiction of the Bluewater District School Board and Catholic School Board.
3. Amount of Bursary
• The Association will budget up to $500 each year to be distributed, either in one or more bursary amounts. Up to three bursaries may be granted in any one year with the minimum being in the amount of $200.00. The decision regarding the number of bursaries for the succeeding year will be made at the beginning of each Fiscal year by the Executive of the Association. The winning applicant will also receive a free one year membership to the Shoreline Artists Association.
4. Timing
• The Association will notify all eligible schools of the details of the Bursary Award by the start of school in September of each year and in January of the following year for distribution to eligible students;
• Deadlines for student application will be May 15th of each year. Submission of application does not guarantee a bursary.
• Notification of bursary recipients will occur by email or phone by June 15 of each year.
• Bursaries will be presented at the Secondary School Graduation ceremony, if possible.
• Bursary payment will be made in two parts, the first being by January 15th of the year following Secondary School graduation and the second and final part being at the end of term by May 30th
5. Eligible Art Works
• All art forms that are primarily visual in nature, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking, photography, ceramics, wood working, jewellery or film are eligible.
6. Application Requirements
• Applicants will submit the required Application Form.
• Applicants will submit three to five jpgs of their original works to be juried.
• Applicants will provide a brief statement indicating the reasons and goals connected with their Art interest and further education.
• Applicants will provide a comment and recommendation letter from their Art teacher.
• Applicants will be allowed to display up to five pieces of their work at the Shoreline Artists Waves of Inspiration Sale in the year the Bursary is awarded. The winning juried works will be displayed.
7. Selection of Bursary Recipients
• The Association will select the Bursary winners through a jury process composed of:
• Three members of the Shoreline Artists Association
• The Jury will review the applications and select finalists for original work submission between May 1 and May 31st of each year.
• The Jury will select the Bursary recipients based on the jurying of original art works by June 15th of each year.
• The decision of the Jury will be final.
8. Organization Procedure
• A committee chair will be established to organize the Bursary process.
• The Chair will secure the names of the Art teachers from each school.
• The Chair will distribute the information regarding the Bursaries to the Art Teachers by September 15th and January 15th each year;
• The Chair will send a reminder notice to all Art teachers by March 1st of each year.
• The Chair will organize the jury selection by April 1st of each year.
• The Chair will organize the location of the jurying process by April 15th of each year.
• The Chair will notify the finalists by email.
• The Chair will notify the Bursary Recipient/s of the final decision of the Jury by June 15th of each year.
• The Chair will arrange for the display of works at the Annual Art Exhibition and Sale.
• The Chair will arrange for the presentation to the Bursary recipient/s at the appropriate Graduation Ceremony, if available.
