Gayle Slinger
“As an artist I am inspired by the images and colours I see in the world around me. Painting provides me with creative moments of joy as well as challenges and as much as I love to paint, it is the challenges that lead me into pushing boundaries and trying something new.”
Gayle is a painter in primarily acrylic, but also watercolour and oil mediums. Her semi-representational and abstract images are inspired by nature, focusing on trees, rural landscapes, sky and water images, evoking familiar moods and memories. Painting presents her with welcoming challenges, directing her to push boundaries and explore new ideas.
Originally from Toronto, Gayle began her art journey in the early 90’s when she moved to London Ontario. There she belonged to art groups, exhibiting in the Southwestern Ontario region. Gayle has been teaching art workshops since 2003 including the Southampton Art school since 2012. She has worked as an Art Consultant for Tourism London and has served as President for the Lambeth Art Association, The Brush and Palette Club and The Central Ontario Art Association. Gayle currently lives and paints at her studio in Sauble Beach.
Gayle writes, "Ideas for my paintings begin with images that form in my mind, which I quickly make notes of so they will not be forgotten. The images are primarily inspired by landscapes, colour, abstract designs and, as the view from my studio overlooks Lake Huron, sky and water views.
My notes and photo references are my starting point. As I begin a painting, and have some thought on where and what I am aiming for, my process then becomes very intuitive. As shapes and colours are placed on the canvas, the results lead me to where I will go next. Satisfaction with composition, balance and values, dramatic or subtle, guide me to the completion of my work."
