Margaret Grottenthaler

Picture
Meg (aka the Lawless Needle) retired from a 35-year career as a Toronto based corporate lawyer in 2018 to devote herself to her passion for art quilts and contemporary embroidery.  Her quilted works combine improvisational piecing and collaging of fabrics into complex designs. She uses her own hand-dyed fabrics, as well as commercial and up-cycled fabrics, and often adds hand and machine embroidery for textural interest.

Her work includes still life, portraits, geometric abstracts, and landscapes.  She finds inspiration in the beauty of her lake house garden and the Lake Huron coastline, her travels and her family.    Whatever the subject or process, she seeks to create quilted works that are painterly, vibrantly coloured and beautiful.
